Mother of President Deon Unthank Passes Away


NASHVILLE, Tenn. – April 8, 2015 – Georgia Evadean Unthank, mother of President Deon Unthank, passed peacefully in to the arms of her Savior on Monday morning, April 7, 2015, at her residence in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. Evadean was born on August 1, 1922 in Eldorado, Illinois. She was married to Charles “Bill” Unthank for over 68 years. Evadean was a talented musician and lifelong member of the Church of God (Cleveland).

“I am so grateful to have been raised by such a Godly woman,” mentioned Deon Unthank. “My mother was the perfect example of Christian love to me and my siblings and her grandchildren. While we hurt, we have joy in knowing that she is sitting at the feet of her Savior with her husband and other family that have already passed.”

Evadean is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Unthank, one granddaughter (Christy Gray), daughter-in-law (Susan Unthank), her parents, and six siblings. She is survived by her children Brenda (Harold) Downing of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Deon (Pamela) Unthank of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Cheryl (Gene) Gray of Grain Valley, Missouri; one sister Jean Coleman of Pensacola, Florida; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Evadean is the grandmother of songwriters and Editor-in-Chief Chris Unthank and Site Administrator Amy Marie Zika.

“We so appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers for my family during this time,” said Deon. “We have already felt the effects of so many prayers that have gone up for us over the last couple of days.”

Funeral and burial will be at Lakeview Gardens Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Services will be Saturday, April 11th with 12:00 – 2:00PM visitation in the Chapel of Lakeview Gardens and the memorial service at 2:00PM.
