On The Rise: The Erwins,
By Rhonda Frye
Four young people, Keith, Katie, Kris and Kody are stealing hearts of southern gospel fans as a new mixed group called, The Erwins. The siblings have traveled with their parents for all of their lives, but it’s only been recently that the industry noticed their talent. In the last few years, the Erwins have received nominations from Singing News Fans, NQC Music Awards and Absolutely Gospel. They have made television appearances, and have performed at NQC, Dollywood, IMC Concerts and more.
Despite growing in popularity, the Erwins cling to their purpose. “The mission of our ministry is to reach as many people we can for the Lord, Keith says. “We want to encourage the church, reach out to the lost and also reach our generation.”
The Erwins are reaching their generation with southern gospel music and find that young people like it! “We’ve grown up listening to this music and love it because every song has a message that’s easy to understand,” Kris comments.” As we share the music, we are seeing our generation falling in love with it when they give it a chance.”
Ranging from ages 22 to 14, the Erwins are typical young people. “Keith and I enjoy anything outdoors like golfing, fishing, hunting, and basketball,” Kody explains. “Kris and Katie are always singing and looking for new songs. They also keep up with friends on social media and like to shop.”
Even with a busy road life, parents Dennis and Tiffany have kept their lives as “normal” as possible. “They would drive all night to get us home for basketball games when we were in school,” Kody says. “We’ve never felt like we’ve missed anything. We have got to see things most people only read about.”
Despite their youth, these kids can sing beyond their years. StowTown Records noticed the sibling harmony and signed them this past August. A new project will release in February 2015. The Erwins say it’s been great to work with Randall Garland and Wayne Haun and they are excited to be recording songs written by some of the greatest writers of today.
“We feel the song selection is one of the most important decisions we will make all year,” Kris explains. “If we can’t relate and get blessed by a song, it’s going to be hard to bless others with it. We try to find songs that are fresh and keep the message clear.”
2015 will be a year of transition because Kody and Keith are both planning weddings! “We will be adding bunks to our bus and the fiancés will join us on the road as soon as the I Do’s are said,” Kris says.
The Erwins are also looking forward to many exciting concerts next year and are grateful for open doors! Keep up with the Erwins at www.erwinministries.com
